Royal Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have joined forces with France's air force in a combined operation on an underground arms cache in Syrian territory employed by the Islamic State group (IS), as stated by the UK's MoD.
The location, identified by surveillance, was thought to be housing weapons and explosive materials, the statement said, and was located in mountainous terrain just north of Palmyra in Syria's central region.
"Our fighter planes utilized Paveway IV guided bombs to strike a series of entry passages providing entry to the depot... initial indications suggest the objective was successfully hit," the ministry announced.
There was no indication of any civilian casualties in the operation late on Saturday and all the aircraft returned to base without incident, the ministry further stated.
The British jets were assisted by a Voyager refuelling tanker.
The Islamic State group - referred to as the so-called Islamic State - enforced extremist governance over large swathes of Syria and Iraq until 2019.
"This operation shows British leadership, and resolve to stand shoulder to shoulder with our allies, to stamp out any re-emergence of IS and their violent and radical beliefs in the region," UK Defence Secretary the Defence Secretary remarked.
UK warplanes have carried out surveillance missions over Syria to "prevent any efforts to regroup" of IS after its defeat at the battle of Baghuz in the year 2019, the authorities noted.
"I must thank the personnel of our armed forces participating in this operation for their professionalism and their courage," Healey said. "They were among thousands of British personnel deployed over the holidays. This action, to eliminate terrorist threats who endanger our security, highlights how our armed forces are ready to step up, continuously, ensuring Britain's security domestically and strong abroad."
In December, the United States armed forces conducted what it described as a "major assault" against Daesh sites in Syria, after an ambush claimed the lives of two American soldiers and a local interpreter in the Palmyra area.
The UN reports Islamic State still maintains an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 combatants in both countries.
